Snub: No rock in Album or Song of the Year
This was clearly hip hop's year, with multiple nominations going to Jay Z, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Drake. Likewise, electronic legends Daft Punk, and pop stars Katy Perry, Lorde and Taylor Swift also made strong showings in the top categories. As a result, rock bands took a backseat -- a rarity at the famously stodgy Grammys -- with veteran acts like David Bowie and Kings of Leon and newcomers such as Alabama Shakes and Imagine Dragons missing out on major general nominations (although Dragons' "Radioactive" snuck into Record of the Year).
