Plus: 'True Detective,' RuPaul's Drag Race' and more
Winner: 'Game of Thrones'
At a certain point, we need to stop writing those stupid "Emmy voters don't like genre TV stories." Emmy voters love "Game of Thrones," just as they once loved "X Files," just as they frequently loved "Lost" and on and on. With 19 nominations, "Game of Thrones" is an Emmy favorite and it isn't just in the myriad technical categories you'd expect it to domination. Lena Headey picked up a nomination this year, proving voters were smart enough to swap out Emilia Clarke when Dany's storyline ceased to make her deserving. There were also writing and directing nominations and even if Dame Diana Rigg only had a couple standout scenes this season, they proved nomination-worthy. There's almost no chance that "Game of Thrones" is going to beat "True Detective" and "Breaking Bad" for Drama Series, but it's still a great morning for HBO's fantasy smash.
