Geoffrey Rush - "The Book Thief"
Pros: Geoffrey Rush is an Oscar favorite, having been nominated for "Shakespeare in Love," "Quills" and "The King's Speech" after winning for "Shine." And "The Book Thief" has a bit of a nostalgic feel to it, like it was lifted from some other season of Oscar's past. He gets the bulk of the supporting work in the film and is an emotional anchor for the picture's young star.
Cons: It's a bit of a soft film overall, however, and that could keep it from registering. While it certainly has its emotional beats, it's not much of a grab-the-tissues thing given how beholden it is to its young adult fiction roots.
