Surveying the field of helmers from debut filmmakers to weathered vets
Ben Stiller - "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
Pros: Stiller pulled off what many other directors couldn't: a modern-day, entertaining feature length version of James Thurber's classic short story. He's also made many members of the directors branch, and studios, a lot of money over the years. (Yeah, we had to pull that card here.)
Cons: …and that's about it. As an actor, Stiller is a somewhat polarizing figure in Hollywood. People love his work, they don't necessarily love to work with him. The fact that "Walter Mitty" has little chance of being a major player in any category outside of maybe production design and cinematography doesn't help either.
