A lackluster slate could bring Walt Disney Animation that elusive first Oscar win
Director: Klay Hall
Voice cast: Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Teri Hatcher, John Cleese
Pros: Well, this Disney spinoff from the Oscar-nominated “Cars” carries the lineage of Pixar, even if it’s not itself a Pixar production, which may be enough for some lazy votes here and there.
Cons: Critics trashed the film, and with good reason: it’s a narratively anemic, paint-by-numbers cash-in, riding on the memory of what is already Pixar's least-loved property. (Even the Academy couldn’t be bothered to nominate “Cars 2.”) Box office was accordingly mediocre. All that aside, it’s unlikely the animators will support what was initially intended to be a direct-to-DVD release.
