Casey Affleck - “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”
Pro: Affleck is a former Oscar nominee (Best Supporting Actor in 2007 for “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”) who nonetheless seems to operate somewhat outside the Hollywood system – he hasn’t worked that frequently in recent years, which lends him and his performances alike a kind of enigmatic credibility. And he’s on fine form in this critically acclaimed Sundance favorite, which plays up his brooding leading-man qualities.
Con: The film caused more of a stir in Sundance than it did upon its August release – it seems unlikely that Academy voters will remember it enough to single Affleck out. Strong as it is, his performance isn’t exactly revelatory.
