Millennium Entertainment went above and beyond to give its surprise indie hit a legitimate awards season push. "Bernie" was one of the first screeners sent out and screenings and events peppered both Los Angeles and New York early enough to have an impact with SAG nom-com voters. As much as the guild may enjoy star Jack Black in a Q&A they couldn't find a way to sneak him into the outstanding actor category and if that didn't happen an ensemble nod for the film was a pipe dream. "Bernie" could surprise with the HFPA, but most likely Linklater's crew will have to enjoy its two major Independent Spirit Awards honors.
