Lowdown: Mega pop stars' singles like Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" were a long shot for this top category, but the Academy tipped its hand at host Seth MacFarlane and the ScarJo-sung track from "Chasing Ice" over the music-driven film and work from Paul Williams. Originals from Ennio Morricone and Rick Ross for expert soundtrack surgeon Tarantino yielded nil and chart-toppers like the Mumfords (pictured) and Florence were also snubbed.
