Bryan Cranston - 'Argo'
Pro: A three-time Emmy Award winner for his work as the iconic Walter White on AMC's "Breaking Bad," Cranston is tremendously respected by his peers in the acting branch. His role as a CIA director trying to make sure his agent on the ground (Ben Affleck) safely completes his mission in 1980 Tehran isn't as entertaining as Alan Arkin's wise-cracking Hollywood producer, but he brings a passion and force that is integral to the film's third act. If "Argo" stays a frontrunner to win best picture the film could easily sneak in both Cranston and Arkin in this category.
Con: If "Argo" fades as a best picture winning player is there enough room at the best supporting actor table for both Arkin and Cranston?
