Ben Whishaw - 'Cloud Atlas'
Pro: Best known for his work in "Perfume: The story of a Murderer," "I'm Not There," "Bright Star" and "Layer Cake," the 32-year-old Whishaw is heartbreaking in his primary role (of four) in Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski's "Cloud Atlas." It's arguably the most emotional role in the film and if "Atlas" is embraced by SAG and the Academy, he could find himself with a surprise invite to the Dolby Theater in February.
Con: Whishaw still has to find a way to distance himself from co-stars Jim Broadbent (in this same category), Tom Hanks and Halle Berry. "Atlas" may just find itself pegged as a major ensemble piece which overshadows the actors individual efforts. If so, at least he's got that gig as the new "Q" in "Skyfall" and the 007 franchise.
