2013 Best Supporting Actor Contenders
Who will be among the nominees?
William H. Macy - 'The Sessions'
Pro: As an open-minded priest and confidante to John Hawkes’s polio-stricken protagonist, Macy effectively serves as the audience’s ears, and supplies many of the biggest laughs, in this unlikely audience-pleaser. With Hawkes and co-star Helen Hunt all but certain to earn nominations, previous nominee Macy, a highly respected figure in the Hollywood acting community, could benefit from general goodwill toward the film.
Con: It’s a mostly reactive role that doesn’t afford the actor any clip-ready moments; even fans of the film may wind up taking his work for granted.
