2013 Best Supporting Actress Contenders

Another round of living legends vs. young ingeues

Salma Hayek, 'Savages'

Pro: Hayek was previously nominated in the best actress category for her title role in "Frida." She's also well respected in the entire industry having been nominated for an Emmy, SAG Award, PGA Award and Golden Globe throughout her career (although she's never won any of them).  Oliver Stone's "Savages" was a solid double at the box office and received mixed to positive reviews, but it was Hayek who stole the movie. Her performance as a Mexican drug lord trying to relate with her stubborn daughter studying in Southern California was both hilarious and heartfelt. It was also Hayek's best role in years.

Con: Again, "Savages" received mixed notices which doesn't help her cause. It's also unclear how much effort Universal wants to put into a campaign when they have two ladies from "Les Miserables" to deal with who have a better chance at a nod.
