2013 Best Supporting Actress Contenders
Another round of living legends vs. young ingeues
Kelly Reilly, 'Flight'
Pro: Kelly Reilly blows into "Flight" something fierce and will no doubt come out the other side a rising starlet. She nails a southern accent and serves as a warm center and ray of hope in a film that concerns itself with darkness and affliction, vice and depression. She could be viewed as the least self-serving character of the film, and therefore, sympathetic.
Con: This is a film very much in danger of being a Denzel-only thing, and indeed, his performance is commanding. "Flight" may be a film with its share of performance highlights but his is the brightest of all, and weighing somewhat against Reilly is the unknown factor. She's not "part of the club," so to speak. Though she certainly may be some day.
