2013 Best Supporting Actress Contenders
Another round of living legends vs. young ingeues
Scarlett Johansson, 'Hitchcock'
Pro: As Janet Leigh, Alfred Hitchcock's leading lady in the 1960 horror staple "Psycho," Scarlett Johansson gets to suffer a lot of duress in Sacha Gervasi's "Hitchcock." Two (presumably) strong leading
performances from Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren could drag some other considerations in their wake, and Johansson has been on the verge of that first nomination for some time now.
Con: Those two performances could also eat up ALL the consideration and pull focus away from much of the rest. And we don't really know yet how extensively the film will deal with Leigh and, therefore, how
much Johansson gets to go toe-to-toe with greats.
