Another round of living legends vs. young ingeues
Emily Blunt, 'Looper'
Pro: In a film that surprised a great many, Emily Blunt might have been the biggest swerve of the film. Her "Looper" love interest is tough, mysterious, motherly, protective, all in one. And Blunt provides an interesting spark at an unexpected time in the movie.
Con: The only problem is getting Academy serious about the film itself could already be a tall order, so looking for performance love therein is a steep climb. Genre movies always struggle outside of crafts categories and it's rare that a "District 9" comes along to shake up that status quo. "Looper" might be another one, but it's all the more
likely that it's not, however great it is.
