2013 Best Picture Oscar Contenders

This year's top candidates from 'A' for 'Argo' to 'Z' for 'Zero Dark Thirty'

'Django Unchained'

Pro: The teaming of Quentin Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein has twice hit the Academy target with “Pulp Fiction” and “Inglourious Basterds,” neither film particularly Oscar-friendly. With a star-studded cast and Christmas release date, this slavery-era western is aiming for event status.

Con: Most of Tarantino's work has been too unruly for Academy tastes, and the script for “Django” looks pretty wild. And when will it even be ready? There are safer bets on the Weinstein slate.
