Robert Zemeckis - 'Flight'
Pro: Robert Zemeckis's "return" to live action filmmaking (he would tell you he never left it) has been much-heralded, and the result was a tight, quality adult drama the likes of which the industry doesn't often see. He assembled a talented cast and crew that is well-liked in the industry to crank out a powerful film that reminds you that they don't make 'em like they used to. That kind of thing can be attractive in a year full of the usual.
Con: "Flight" is very much in danger of being a "Denzel-only" proposition, as we've noted before. And indeed, the last time Zemeckis tried his hand at live action the film came away with a Best Actor nomination and some craft recognition and that's all. Could that be in the cards once again? It's also a bit of a swerve, as audiences aren't likely to expect what they get.
