Cannes Film Festival 2013

2013 Best Adapted and Original Screenplay Contenders

Which original scripts and adaptations will reap Oscar glory this year?

'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' - Stephen Chbosky - Adapted

Pro: Chbosky not only adapted his popular young adult novel, but insisted on directing it. The result was a rare instant coming of age classic. Summit also has a nomination for Chbosky as one of its awards season priorities.

Con: Beyond the fact that adapted screenplay is always so competitive, the film was not the slam dunk with major critics many hoped it would be. "Wallflower" can absolutely benefit from any pre-Oscar deadline publicity or honors it can get.
