'Life of Pi' - David Magee - Adapted Screenplay
Pro: David Magee was previously nominated in this category for adapting "Finding Neverland." With "Life of Pi," Magee had the tough task of helping turn Yann Martel's acclaimed novel - a book director Ang Lee thought could never be made into a movie - into a proper film.
Con: While the novel includes an epilogue to Pi's amazing journey, the more formal bookends from the movie are new. While setting these bookends in the present day and focusing on the faith aspect of the story, Magee and Lee may have overcomplicated Magee's original intent.
