2013 Best Adapted and Original Screenplay Contenders
Which original scripts and adaptations will reap Oscar glory this year?
'Cloud Atlas' - Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski & Lana Wachowski - Adapted Screenplay
Pro: The triple threat adaptation of David Mitchell's popular novel hasn't gotten the praise it deserves. Tykwer and the Wachowski's actually deviate from the novel's story by chapter structure and interweave the film's timelines into a collective whole. Considering the movie's six storylines cover multiple centuries the trio of filmmakers have pulled off something incredibly difficult and, in the end, quite remarkable.
Con: Unfortunately, "Atlas" was not a box office smash and polarized critics. While it has a growing cult of passionate fans, it's unclear how many are in the Academy.
