2013 Best Animated Feature Film Contenders

From 'Brave' to 'Zarafa'

"Ice Age: Continental Drift"

Director: Steve Martino, Mike Thermeier
Distributor: 20th Century Fox
The Lowdown: The latest installment in one of two ne'er-do-well (at the Oscars) franchises on the list of qualifiers this year, "Ice Age: Continental Drift" is nevertheless a little different than that other animals-on-the-loose flick because it keeps bogging further into THE FORMULA. Any excitement has been sapped long ago and the critics have slid away like glaciers each step of the way, too. The first film may have landed a nomination, but this one certainly won't, and at this trajectory, none ever will again. But Blue Sky Studios has shown other signs of life with films like "Horton Hears a Who!" and "Rio" in recent years, so maybe the animation house will eventually get in bed with the right material again.
