Michelle Williams - 'Take This Waltz'
Pro: Williams is already a three-time Oscar nominee having just been recognized for "My Week with Marilyn" (which she won a Golden Globe and Indie Spirit Award for). Sarah Polley's "Waltz" should make a number of year end critic's top 10 lists and Williams received raves for her performance. Considering it was released simultaneously on VOD and in theaters, "Waltz" was a respectable indie hit grossing $1.2 million in no more than 64 theaters.
Con: Distributor Magnolia Pictures isn't one to spend a lot on an awards campaign. Especially when screeners and a strong ad campaign is needed to bring the performance in front of voters again. Moreover, after back to back years campaigning for "Blue Valentine" and "Marilyn," it's hard to imagine the usually private Williams wanting to go through the awards circuit circus a third year in a row.
