2013 Best Actor Contenders
Daniel Day-Lewis? Ben Affleck? Denzel Washington? Who made the cut?
Richard Gere - 'Arbitrage'
Pro: A campaign like this can easily be mounted on the goodwill shown to an actor who has been around the block plenty of times but never been recognized with an Oscar nomination. Also, the film is very much of the moment, playing to the zeitgeist at a time when corporatism is being held under a harsh spotlight.
Con: Maintaining any momentum after bowing at Sundance is a difficult task and the film registers pretty small compared to other efforts in play this year. And while Gere is very good and has his share of supporters, it's not an undeniable performance that has everyone talking.
