Jack Black - 'Bernie'
Pro: With Millennium Films bringing the buzz wave back around on Richard Linklater's critical fave, star Jack Black could get notices from the HFPA and Independent Spirit Awards for his best performance to date. All of that makes for nice building blocks when you're trying to mount a campaign for an underdog.
Con: But the Oscar season is rarely the place for underdogs, it seems, and "Bernie" in particular was released back in April. That's a long road to hoe, and there's always the stigma of comedy that ends up attached to films like this.
