John Hawkes - 'The Sessions'
Pro: A consistent, model worker, Hawkes is well-liked among his fellow actors (who rewarded him with an Oscar nomination for supporting work in "Winter's Bone" two years ago). The fact that his role and performance ticks off so many Oscar-bait boxes -- physical ailment, true-life story, etc. -- certainly doesn't hurt.
Con: "The Sessions" is a small film compared to powerhouse efforts like "Lincoln" and even "The Master." That could keep it relegated to Indie Spirit considerations or this and that critics' citation.
