Tom Hanks - 'Cloud Atlas'
Pro: The now legendary two-time Oscar winner has been nominated five times and currently is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences board of governors. He's also four Golden Globe honors, six Emmy Awards, four PGA awards and two SAG Awards. He plays six very different roles in the time-traveling "Cloud Atlas" and is superb in his most challenging role since "Castaway" (his last nomination). To that point, Hanks hasn't been nominated in a decade and "Atlas" may give the Academy the excuse it's been waiting for.
Con: It may just depend on the reaction to "Atlas." If the actors branch is entranced by the challenges Hanks and his cohorts overcame with the multiple roles he might just have a chance to crack the best actor five. If not? Well, at the minimum, a Golden Globe nomination should happen.
