“Don’t You Wanna Stay,” Jason Aldean with Kelly Clarkson
“You And Tequila,” Kenny Chesney featuring Grace Potter
“Barton Hollow,” The Civil Wars
“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” Thompson Square
With the consolidation of categories from 109 to 78 this year, one sad consequence is that established duos and groups, such as Thompson Square, now compete with one-off collaborations, like Jason Aldean with Kelly Clarkson.
Having said that, it seems incredulous that the Grammy voters only found four songs to nominate here: what about Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood’s “Remind Me” or any single from Lady Antebellum during the qualifying period? The Grammy voters also have a history of picking critical favorites over folks who actually get country radio airplay. That bodes well for Civil Wars’ “Barton Hollow.”
Should Win: “You And Tequila”
Will Win: “Barton Hollow”
