Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical
It may tell you something that the Smeezingtons are actually performing at the Grammy Awards show. Bruno Mars would be incomplete without them, and while the solo performer may not win many (or any) of his six nominated spots, the production/songwriting team behind Mars may get some of his credit here.
Butch Vig, on the other hand, was very visible in 2011, not only for helming the analog-recorded "Wasting Light" by the Foo Fighters but for soaking up some spotlight for the Nirvana's "Nevermind" 20th anniversary.
This is a tough face-off. It's like comparing organic apples to genetically modified oranges.
(And Danger Mouse had his hands full with several projects, but let's face it: none have been as high-profile as the dormant Gnarls Barkley projects, We'll just have to keep waiting for that U2 album to drop...)
Who will win: The Smeezingtons
Who should win: Butch Vig
