An entire network, a possible Oscar fave and Muppets get the shaft
Loser: Melissa McCarthy
McCarthy's performance in "Bridesmaids" was such a scene stealer that she's already generated Oscar buzz for a Best Supporting Actress nod and won an Emmy for her work on "Mike & Molly" -- so what's up with the foreign press? Instead of picking McCarthy, they instead opted for co-star Kristen Wiig in the Best Actress, Comedy or Musical category. While Wiig is certainly deserving, her inclusion over McCarthy does nothing to bolster her Oscar chances or the credibility of the HFPA. Not that either she (nor McCarthy) could have hoped for much in the Globes' bizarro Best Actress category. Given that at least three dramatic performances (Jodi Foster and Kate Winslet for "Carnage" and Michelle WIlliams for "My Weekend with Marilyn) are nominated, it's anybody's guess who'll actually win.
