Is this the most competitive category of the season?
Jim Broadbent, "The Iron Lady"
Pro: A winner in this same category a decade ago for "Iris," the acclaimed Brit takes on the intriguing role of former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's archly conservative husband Dennis in this new biopic. Broadbent arguably deserves more recognition by the Academy after his work in "Another Year," "Moulin Rouge," "Topsy-Turvy" and "Little Voice" (among others) was completely overlooked.
Con: Buzz so far is that this is Streep's show, but could she help snag a nod for Broadbent as she did for Stanley Tucci with "Julie & Julia"? We'll see.
