Jeremy Irvine, "War Horse"
Pro: Irvine plays Albert, the boy who first saves the film's signature horse from his father's bad bets only to lose him to the War effort later on. Fearful for the fate of the horse he raised, Albert lies about his age and enlists in the British Army looking for his horse in the trenches. It's a harrowing role that, for the right actor and performance, could easily land a nomination.
Con: Early word is the film's epic canvas overshadows any individual performance from the ensemble cast. We'll know more by the time "War Horse" premieres at the beginning of Dec. Irvine's sole acting credit before Steven Spielberg picked him for this role was on the UK TV series "Love Bites."
