2012 Best Supporting Actor Contenders
Is this the most competitive category of the season?
Brad Pitt, "The Tree of Life"
Pro: Pitt is a two-time nominee who was last feted for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" almost three years ago. Critics lauded Pitt with some of the most glowing reviews of his career for his performance in Terrence Malick's latest. He was initial considered a frontrunner in this category.
Con: Pitt's work in "Moneyball," which could find him in them middle of the best actor race, may overshadow him here. His co-star Jessica Chastain may also take the acting branches support for "Tree" in the best actress race instead. And, of course, Pitt won't campaign for it.
