Pro: Industry icon Clint Eastwood has a good track record in the best picture race with nominations for "Mystic River," "Letters from Iwo Jima" and winner "Million Dollar Baby." The historical drama also features a screenplay from Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black ("Milk") and stars Leonardo DiCaprio. Worth noting that while he's never won his own statue, DiCaprio has starred in five best picture nominees and two winners ("Titanic," "The Departed").
Con: Notice Eastwood's record is now good, and no longer "great." Since "Dollar Baby," he's had three misfires ("Changeling," "Flags of Our Fathers," "Hereafter"), one surprise Oscar miss ("Invictus") and one hit that wasn't really a player ("Gran Torino"). J. Edgar Hoover was also one of the most despised American figures of the 20th Century. Can Eastwood and Black transform him into a sympathetic figure? (Should they?) This makes "Edgar" is one of the more difficult calls of the season.
