Is it Davis vs. Williams vs. Streep?
Glenn Close, "Albert Nobbs"
Pro: Close, a four-time nominee, makes a dramatic transformation into the title character, a woman disguised as a man in order to survive on her own in 19th Century Ireland. At times, Close is unrecognizable with little prosthetic makeup to assist in her performance. This is also a passion project for Close who co-wrote the screenplay and worked for over a decade to get the film made.
Con: No one is disputing Close's fine work in the film, but the picture itself comes up short. That could hurt her chances to win, but shouldn't prevent her from landing a nomination.
