2012 Best Actor Oscar Contenders

Is it Clooney versus the field?

Thomas Horn, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"

Thomas Horn, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"

Pro: Director Stephen Daldry has had success with young actors (see Jamie Bell in "Billy Elliott," David Cross in "The Reader") and Horn, a 13-year-old former "Jeopardy!" kids week champion, has a plum role as Oskar Schell in this post-9/11 drama.  Every couple of years the Academy embraces a young actor such as Tatum O'Neal, Anna Paquin, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Abigail Breslin.  Could Horn be the next actor in that cycle?

Con: It's Horn's feature film debut and a big TBD.
