Is it Clooney versus the field?
Leonardo DiCaprio, "J. Edgar"
Pro: As J. Edgar Hoover, DiCaprio is playing one of the most despicable men of the 20th Century. If he can somehow make him sympathetic he may finally win his first Academy Awards. A three-time nominee, DiCaprio has starred in two best picture winners ("The Departed," "Titanic") and five nominated films overall (add "Inception," "The Aviator" and "Gangs of New York").
Con: See the above description. Plus, DiCaprio has rarely been rewarded for his best performances. He found himself nominee-less for "Catch Me if You Can," "The Departed" and "Revolutionary Road."
