Loser: Original songs
Presumably there's a very logical reason for how, despite having 39 eligible candidates, we ended up with only two Original Song nominees, "Man or Muppet" from "The Muppets" and "Real in Rio" from "Rio." Heck, the 39-song shortlist had two additional songs from "Rio" and two additional songs from "The Muppets" that didn't make the cut. Somehow, Oscar voters had no compunctions about snubbing the likes of Elton John and Sinead O'Connor and Zooey Deschanel. Of course, we all know that Oscar voters are very picky about this category. Oscar winners Three 6 Mafia, anyone?
