Loser: Robert De Niro
This can actually go either way. From what I could tell, people were split on whether it was a good idea for the "Meet the Fockers" star to turn his Career Achievement Moment into a clearly ghostwritten roast that had more than a few people referencing his "King of Comedy" character. I'm not opposed to the comedic approach. It's a silly award at a silly award show and Gervais had already, as I mentioned earlier, set a specific tone of mockery. And, heck, the clip package included a snippet from "Rocky & Bullwinkle," for heaven's sake. I just wish De Niro could have either memorized his speech or learned to follow the teleprompter. Instead, he was stumbling over "his" punchlines and only calling attention to how clear it was that he'd never seen these words before in his life.
