Cannes Film Festival 2013

2011 Best Supporting Actress Oscar Contenders

Could this be the year's most competitive category?

Helena Bonham Carter, "The King's Speech"

Pro: Arguably Carter's best performance since the little seen 2005 indie "Conversations with Other Women."  "Speech" is an audience favorite and at this point its hard to see her not getting in.  She was also previously nominated in the best actress category in 1998 for "The Wings of the Dove."

Con: Is the role substantial enough for her to actually have a shot to win?  Especially with Firth and Rush expected to be leading contenders in their own categories?
