I'll hold off judgement till I've seen the movie, but Christian Bale has never been nominated because he's not good enough.

RR A minority opinion most wouldn't agree with. Bale has given multiple Oscar caliber performances-his best ones being in low budget indie films that received no Oscar campaign.

Jonnybon I've seen them all and he's a very average actor. He works his ass off but he's not greatly talented.

  • That's it? Just 13 players in the fray? Sad.

Anyway, I haven't seen it yet, but do any of the boys in Inception stand a chance? And Ben Kingsley (really long shot) for Shutter Island?

Damon has actually been nominated for acting twice. The first was for "Good Will Hunting." His writing win overshadows his acting nom I suppose.

Matt Damon was nominated for Best Actor in Good Will Hunting! So, he has two acting nominations to date.

  • Why is nobody mentioning Harrison Ford? Morning Glory looks like a great role for him. He's the biggest movie star of all time and he's never won before. I think he's a formidable candidate.

Also, sony is going to push Garfield hard, not just for The Social Network but so they Spider-man trailers can credit him as "Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield."

Kenneth Hum... Action/fantasy movies don't feature trailers with 'Academy Award nominee' in front of the actors' names. Inception is a good example, since it features a lot of nominees and winners.

  • I love Renner, but he chewed the scenery like nobody's business in "The Town" DEFINITELY should have pulled back a bit... but that may be more afflecks fault?

I'd put in there John Hawkes for Winter's Bone. As the uncle of the heroine in the movie, he gives us a view of a methhead trying to retain his soul

ricardo Hawkes performance is one of the most riveting I've seen in many years. This guy must have a future in film.

Certainly Armie Hammer should be mentioned. I'm not certain he'll be nominated for The Social Network, but there's been a lot of talk about the possibility, and he's in the running.

excuse me but did everyone forget Jeremy Renner, who I thought was robbed of his award last year! He was the best actor in The Town but played in a supporting role so he should be nominated and hopefully he'll win. The only other actor ive seen to date who deserves an oscar nod in the supporting actor category is John Hawkes from Winters Bone. Damn right Renner should win. He did for The Town what Pesci did for Goodfellas.

  • I'm so on the side of Andrew Garfield. Amazing and believable performance. Justin was okay too.

Jim Broadbent was a Supporting Actor Oscar winner. NOT a Lead Actor winner. He hasn't even ever been nominated in the Leading Actor category.

Jim Broadbent won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Iris, not Best Actor.
