Debra Granik, Anne Rosellini, "Winter's Bone"
Based on the novel "Winter's Bone" by Daniel Woodrell.
Pro: Academy members may want to reward this indie summer hit that won the Grand Jury Drama prize at Sundance in January with a nod somewhere. The writer's branch may be the prefect group to do it.
Con: It's a common mantra this year, but adapted is just extremely competitive. And, while this is traditionally the type of film the writer's branch likes to reward, "Bone's" charms might be more about the performances and the direction than the screenplay.
