2010 Golden Globes Winners & Losers

How did Ricky Gervais do? Is Avatar an unstoppable force? And how was "Glee" a winner and a loser?

Winner: Jeff Bridges

Winner: Jeff Bridges

Is this finally Jeff Bridges' year to take home the Oscar? It's beginning to feel that way.

The admired "Crazy Heart" star won the Best Actor, Drama Golden Globe and while his speech wasn't as memorably hyper and funny as Best Actor, Comedy Robert Downey Jr's speech, it was heartfelt, as he thanked his late father, his mother and even his stand-in.

Bridges received a standing ovation when he took the stage. The industry loves The Dude and for good reason.

COMPLETELY disagree about Ricky Gervais. He was absolutely hilarious and it's a shame that so many Americans just don't get his fantastic British sense of humor.

An absolute winner, and I'm certain he will be asked to do it again. The Invention of Lying may be awful, but the guy is priceless in anything that's not a movie.

dan Tom - Can't *exactly* figure out what not getting his British sense of humor has to do with anything. Gervais is hilarious. I love "The Office." I like "Extras" quite a bit. He cracks me up almost everything he does. But that doesn't change the fact that he was playing to total silence in the Beverly Hilton ballroom by the end. It's possible to think that Gervais is, as a rule, utterly brilliant, but that he just didn't succeed last night... -Daniel

I disagree about Gervais. He had everyone I was watching the show with laughing: kids in their teens, twenties, and people in their forties and fifties. I don't care if the celebrities weren't "into it"(which I think they were), because we at home loved it.

Also, you called McCartney "McCarthy"... nice.

dan Mike - What about the four times I spelled McCartney's name *right* though? Anyway, twas a typo and it was fixed. And there seems to be a split on Gervais' performance, which is just fine. The problem being that he delivered no ratings boost and the crowd in attendance didn't like him, which means he's not going to be atop anybody's list for hosting duties in the future, which he could have been with a universally praised performance. - Daniel

Trekscribbler Gervais was just fine. I don't think the Globes can recover from being viewed by much of the audience as a pandering squatfest, so I'm not surprised if there's no ratings bump. As far as I'm concerned, they could yank this kind of garbage off the TV and just give us a fancy 2 hr recap show of the 'best moments' and that'd be good and well enough.

Mike At this point they really are just an excuse for Harrison Ford to get drunk.

Haha, that's true, fifth time's always the toughest.

I don't know, I just don't get it. I heard the same talk about being a divisive hosting job when Stewart did the Oscars, and a lot of the talk came down to ratings and celebrity reaction (with, admittedly good reason) but I don't think that's ultimately the host's job. He keeps us entertained and into the show, and I think he did that.

I'm sorry, but Glee is tonally inconsistent to the point of frustration. Everyone seems to be in a different show. I can't. I just can't.
