Previous nominations or wins:
Nominee, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, "The Last Picture Show" (1972)
Nominee, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" (1975)
Nominee, Best Actor, "Starman" (1984)
Pros: The man is due. He received his first nod over 37 years ago and still hasn't won. More importantly, he's an absolute riot in "Goats" and is incredibly well-respected in both the industry and Academy as a whole.
Cons: His co-star Clooney may steal the limelight in this category. If "Goats" doesn't perform well, he and the film could suffer from being in a contender not as critically acclaimed as the rest of the competition.
