2010 Best Supporting Actor Contenders
Could a 'Basterd,' a 'Trek' doctor, a 'Goat' and 'Orson Welles' find Oscar?
Woody Harrelson, "The Messenger"
Previous nominations or wins:
Nominee, Best Actor, "The People vs. Larry Flynt," (1997)
Pros: Harrelson gives an absolutely riveting performance as a military officer whose has spent years informing families that their sons, daughters, husbands and wives have fallen in service of their country. While the film's primary storyline follows Ben Foster's character, Harrelson's actually has the more believable and sympathetic arc. The previous Oscar nominee should also benefit starring in the hit comedy "Zombieland," everybody loves someone who makes their company money.
Cons: Small indie Oscilloscope Laboratories is releasing the Sundance Film Festival flick and while they have a first-rate publicity firm on board there are questions whether they have the money to really stage a strong campaign to open the film let alone for awards.
