Clooney, Damon, Day-Lewis, Firth and who else make the cut?
Willem Dafoe, "Antichrist"
Previous nominations or wins:
Nominee, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, "Platoon" (1987)
Nominee, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, "Shadow of the Vampire" (2001)
Pros: American critics have been much more receptive to Lars Von Trier's latest than those at Cannes. With the turnaround, Dafoe could be a benefit
Cons: "Challenging" has become an overused excuse when describing potentially difficult films, but "Antichrist" is really challenging material. Will enough older Academy members really sit through all of it?
