Clooney, Damon, Day-Lewis, Firth and who else make the cut?
Nicolas Cage, "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans"
Previous nominations or wins:
Won, Best Actor, "Leaving Las Vegas," (1996)
Nominated, Best Actor, "Adaptation," (2003)
Pros: Hands down, it's Cage's best performance since "Adaptation." He hasn't been this good in a long, long time and the best part is he's endearingly funny as a corrupt and drug-addicted New Orleans police detective.
Cons: The producers behind "Bad Lieutenant" were hoping a bigger distributor would acquire the film, but instead they will release through indie label First Look. Can the small outfit put on a proper awards season campaign? Moreover, will enough members see it?
