Cannes Film Festival 2013

2010 Best Actor Contenders

Clooney, Damon, Day-Lewis, Firth and who else make the cut?

Adam Sandler, "Funny People"

Adam Sandler, "Funny People"

Previous nominations or wins: None

Pros:
Sandler gives another strong dramatic and comedic performance to follow up his slapstick-less work in "Reign Over Me" and "Punch-Drunk Love." The actor and producer has made a ton of money for Hollywood over the years and is considered one of the most loyal guys in the business which means he's got lots of friends from the top to the bottom of the movie chain.

Cons:  Judd Apatow's dramedy was seen as a commercial and critical disappointment. Moreover, comedians are rarely recognized by the Academy, even for dramatic work.  If he can't land a Golden Globe nod he's in trouble.
