Cannes Film Festival 2013

2010 Best Actor Contenders

Clooney, Damon, Day-Lewis, Firth and who else make the cut?

Jim Carrey, "A Christmas Carol"

Previous nominations or wins: None

Pros: Carrey portrays a minimum of four different roles in Robert Zemeckis' motion-capture performance picture "A Christmas Carol" including the leading role of the classic character Ebenezer Scrooge.  To say Carrey is long overdue for at least a nomination is a severe understatement.

Cons: is it real or is it motion-capture?  Carrey's performance and facial expressions are captured and incorporated directly onto the screen, but will the actors branch embrace it as "real"?  Moreover, has the Academy forgiven Carrey for his boisterous Golden Globe acceptance speech after winning the Best Actor Award for "The Truman Show?  Considering it's been over a decade they should.  Carrey's certainly made enough money for almost every studio in town.
