20 Worst Films of 2012: 'Battleship,' 'Total Recall,' 'Tyler Perry's Good Deeds'
20. 'People Like Us'
There was a huge, cavernous hole in Alex Kurtzman's directorial debut. The story centers on Sam (Chris Pine) a scheming New York businessman who returns to LA after the death of his father. He soon discovers that he has a down on her luck sister, Frankie (Elizabeth Banks), and an 11-year-old nephew Josh (Michael Hall D'Addario) that he never knew about. His father left him nothing in the will. Instead, he left instructions that Sam give $150,000 to his grandson Josh (instructions only Sam knows about). (Confused? Trust us, it gets worse...) Sam's conflict is that this is money he could desperately use for himself. It would be one thing for Sam to keep the money after meeting both Frankie and Sam (after basically stalking them), but he doesn't tell him who he is - for no apparent reason. In fact, he keeps it a secret for days and weeks in the movie's timeline. If he wasn't sure whether to give the money that's one thing, but that shouldn't stop him from revealing he's related to this people he's becoming "friends" with. It's such a false suspension of disbelief that the entire film falters on its already flimsy premise.

December 31, 2012 at 10:25PM EST Reply to CommentThe reason you do not understand the resident evil franchise is because you are probably caught up in the popular myth that video games and movies do not mix. Those movies freaking rock! Typically, great science fiction movies get bad reviews. Or you were upset no characters bashed Bush or a conservative viewpoint.
Trueresidentevilfan Umm as a resident evil game fan, I have to completely agree with his summation of the movie. Every Resident evil movie that's come out so far is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! Who is Alice? Why does she have such a prominent role, (often replacing the actual central characters) in these movies when she doesn't even exist in the series.

January 23, 2013 at 8:45PM EST Reply to CommentThe Resident Evil series does not touch the game franchise. The game story lines are better and more taught. Someone should call Rob Zombie for re boot.....
Charlie I would give this Gregory Ellwood a C- for his ability to critique. He is clearly a half-assed student with no film studies background. Who hired him? It's fine if he didn't like the movie. Neither did I. But that was an incredibly poor evaluation.

February 7, 2013 at 3:46PM EST Reply to CommentI do not agree with total recall being on this list. Granted it was nothing like the original, it still had good moments. And saying Kate was dull in this movie is just ludicrous. With that being said, anything tyler perry directs or acts in should be the top of any list. Stop watching his movies and shows people, and he will go away!

Ed Wood was a master of horror, too

March 5, 2013 at 9:25PM EST Reply to CommentBattleship was a very good movie. It brought back the battleships and the men that fought in them, that was a real neat twist, amongst other good things in the movie. Many people have a herd mentality and in this case, this critic sure does. He can't think on his own, just follows the wrong crowd.
S. Never trust a bad movie list that leaves twilight out. How that didn't get on here is beyond me
