'Abduction,' 'Beastly,' 'New Year's Eve' and...?
For the love of God and all that’s holy, why on earth did anyone think remaking this 1981 classic was a good idea? Absolutely no one can approach Dudley Moore’s take on the lovable, alcoholic scamp, even Russell Brand, who was probably as good a choice as any in this fool’s errand. But not even Brand and Dame Helen Mirren (in the gender-switching John Gielgud role) can save this washed-up remake that insisted on sending Arthur to rehab and turning the klepto-with-a-heart-of-gold girlfriend (so beautifully played by Liza Minelli) into a pixie-ish, bland faux tour guide.
